Behrend women’s basketball team defeats Wells, Pitt-Bradford

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend women’s basketball team defeated Wells College and University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in recent Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchups. The team, which has built a 12-2 conference record, will travel to Hilbert College on Feb. 7.

Behrend’s track and field, swimming and diving, volleyball, bowling and wrestling teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s basketball

  • Penn State Behrend 60, Wells 53
  • Penn State Behrend 77, Pitt-Bradford 59
  • La Roche 71, Penn State Behrend 69

Mason Blankenberg, a second-year student from Ontario, New York, scored a career-high 27 points against La Roche. Tommy DiRienzo, a senior from Pittsburgh, scored 25 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Women’s basketball

  • Penn State Behrend 119, Wells 16
  • Penn State Behrend 90, Pitt-Bradford 60
  • La Roche 82, Penn State Behrend 78

Morgan Altavilla, a second-year student from Pittsburgh, led the Lions against La Roche with 29 points. Rachel Majewski, a third-year student from Erie, scored 25 points against Pitt-Bradford

Men’s track and field

Behrend’s 4000 medley relay team — Aidan Domencic, Jake Walden, Jason Seevers and Kody Klein — placed 12th at the Jud Logan “Light Giver” Open in Ashland, Ohio, finishing in 10:20.22. The time qualifies the team to compete in the All-Atlantic Region Rack & Field Conference.

Women’s track and field

Ivy Laffan, a third-year student from Waterford, placed eighth in a field of 41 runners in the 400 dash at the Jud Logan “Light Giver” Open in Ashland, Ohio. She finished in 1:02.52.

Men’s swimming and diving

  • Penn State Behrend 190.5, Wheeling 64.5

Tim Compton, a third-year student from Pittsburgh, won the 200 backstroke (2:08.68). David Hauptman, a sophomore from Titusville, won the 200 breaststroke (2:21.68). Both swam with the 400 medley relay team, which won in 3:44.04. Ryan Willis, a second-year student from State College, won the 100 breaststroke (1:05.32) and the 100 butterfly (57.55).

Women’s swimming and diving

  • Penn State Behrend 132, Wheeling 127

Camryn Watters, a first-year student from Greensburg, won the 100 backstroke (1:03.33) and the 200 backstroke (2:14.27). She also swam with the 400 medley relay team, which won in 4:24.14.

Men’s volleyball

  • Eastern Mennonite 3, Penn State Behrend 0
  • Wittenberg 3, Penn State Behrend 1
  • Buffalo State 3, Penn State Behrend 2

The fourth set against Wittenberg was tied 13 times. Owen Wienczkowski, a senior from Waterford, led the Lions with eight kills, four block assists and two digs.

Women’s bowling

  • Pitt-Bradford 847, Penn State Behrend 696

Sidney Batsa, a third-year student from Latrobe, bowled a 216 against La Roche at the AMCC Round Robin 2. Bella Pilyih, a senior from Pittsburgh, bowled a 187 against Saint Vincent.

Wrestling

  • Case Western 40, Penn State Behrend 9
  • Gannon 42, Penn State Behrend 4

Peyton Hearn, a senior from Conneaut Lake, won by decision, 4-2, in the 149-pound bout against Case Western. Matthew Caldwell, a first-year student from Wheatfield, New York, won by major decision, 14-2, in the 197-pound bout against Gannon.
