Advertising expert to address value of creativity when battling health inequity

Davis Lecture in Advertising Ethics set for 6 p.m. on Oct. 31

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — An advertising executive who has spearheaded campaigns for world-class consumer health care brands will present the Davis Lecture in Advertising Ethics, titled “Nothing Cures Health Inequity Quite Like Creativity,” at 6 p.m. on Oct. 31 in 60 Willard Building on the University Park campus.

The session, sponsored by the Davis Program in Ethical Leadership, is free and open to the public.

Guest lecturer Michelle Tucker serves as executive vice president/creative director and U.S. creative health lead for Edelman-Chicago. She directs teams to develop campaigns aimed at creating positive impacts on health and wellness, emphasizing women’s health, mental wellness, health equity, and diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

With her experience at agencies such as Havas Worldwide and FCB, Tucker has been instrumental in developing award-winning campaigns for Johnson & Johnson, Similac Baby Formula, Visa, Ragu Past Sauce and Jim Beam, to name a few.

"Not only does Ms. Tucker straddle the worlds of advertising and public relations, but through her work, she has embodied a dedication to crafting campaigns aimed at making the world a better place," said Patrick Plaisance, the Davis Professor in Ethics in the Donald P. Bellisario Bellisario College of Communications. "We're delighted to bring such an inspiring industry veteran to Penn State."

Tucker is a graduate of Purdue University and was recently awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from the university’s School of Liberal Arts. She is a native Chicagoan and is an adjunct instructor at the School of Communication at Loyola University Chicago.
