UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A Penn State alumnus who has crafted a long and successful career in communications will present a free public lecture titled “How to Succeed in Corporate America” during a visit to the University Park campus in mid-March.
Charles Pittman, who earned his bachelor’s degree in business in 1970, will be featured at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, in 158 Willard Building. His visit is sponsored by the University Park Allocation Committee, the African, Hispanic and Native American Student Association (AHANA), and the Office of Multicultural Affairs in the College of Communications.
Pittman serves as senior vice president-newspapers for Schurz Communications Inc., a media holding company that publishes the South Bend Tribune and 11 other daily papers and six weeklies. The company also has interests in radio, television, cable television and advertising shoppers in 14 different states -- literally coast to coast with holdings from Alaska to Florida and California to Maryland.
Pittman, a former All-America running back at Penn State, began his newspaper career in 1980 with the Times Publishing Co. in Erie, Pa., and has worked for several companies with ever-growing responsibilities during his career. He has been a frequent speaker at community gatherings, especially ones aimed at helping and inspiring young people.
