WASHINGTON, D.C. — Once again, a large cohort of researchers from Penn State’s Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications participated in the annual International Communication Association conference. The researchers presented research on many issues facing the communication industry.

More than 50 faculty members and graduate students, including seven alumni, represented the Bellisario College at the 69th ICA conference from May 24 to 28 in Washington, D.C. They conducted workshops, gave presentations and held discussions on many research areas, including digital media, diversity, ethics, health, policy, sports, sustainability and more.

Among the projects completed by the 21 Bellisario College faculty members and 24 graduate students involved, some were dubbed "top papers." Graduate students Lewen Wei and Bingjie Liu were awarded the “Top Student Paper Award” from ICA’s Communication and Technology Division; and graduate student Wunpini Fatimata Mohammed was awarded the “Top Student Paper Award” from the Ethnicity and Race in Communication Division.

The ICA is an academic association for scholars interested in the study, teaching and application of all aspects of communication. The Bellisario College has been well-represented and active in the organization for years.

ICA was founded more than 50 years ago as a small association of U.S. researchers and is now an international association with more than 4,500 members from 80 countries. It aims to advance the scholarly study of human communication by encouraging and facilitating excellence in academic research worldwide. Since 2003, ICA has been officially associated with the United Nations as a non-governmental association.
