The vice president of a communications company that helps clients target the Asian-American audience in the United States will present a free public lecture about diversity in the media as part of weeklong visit to the University Park campus in early March. Jon Yokogawa, vice president at interTrend Communications in Long Beach, California, will present “Corporate Responsibility for Diversity and Inclusion in Media/Advertising” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, in the Nittany Lion Inn boardroom. Yokogawa comes to campus as the featured guest for the Arthur W. Page Center Professional-in-Residence Lecture Series, which is supported by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He oversees consumer engagement for interTrend Communications, covering traditional and non-traditional media avenues to deliver the most effective strategies reaching out to Asian-American consumers. Yokogawa began his career working on national broadcast advertising planning and buying for the Walt Disney Company. He has worked at national agencies such as Rubin Postaer and Associates, Bates USA and DDB Needham Worldwide. Yokogawa has worked with clients such as Charles Schwab and Hyundai. He was also part of the beginning of interactive media, prior to the dot-com explosion, when he served as director of marketing for Virgin Entertainment and eventually vice president of global marketing for Rare Medium, working with clients such as Con Agra, Mattel and Nestle USA. During his weeklong campus visit Yokogawa will also visit classes and work with faculty members in the College of Communications, discussing topics such as the Toyota recall crisis, Asian American use of social media and the Asian media landscape.
