UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — An incoming Penn State student who plans to study communications has earned the Connecticut Broadcasters Association’s Nelson Brown Scholarship for the 2020-21 academic year.
Caelan Chevrier, who will be a freshman on the University Park campus in the fall, started his radio and television career at a young age when played a small part in a Spanish K-Mart commercial and later hosted his own radio show every Wednesday on WWPT-FM (90.3) in his hometown of Westport, Connecticut.
Along with broadcasting, Cevrier participates in several sports and won the state championship as a member of the volleyball team his junior year.
The Connecticut Broadcasters Association is a nonprofit organization of radio and TV stations in the state. It awards the Nelson Brown Scholarship to Connecticut residents who are pursuing careers in the media industry. Nelson Brown was a longtime speaker of the Connecticut House of Representatives. After his service in World War II, Brown studied broadcasting and became a news broadcaster.
