Journalism 'boot camp' under way for national internship program

Eleven journalism students from a group of 75 selected nationwide for the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund Editing Intern Program are taking part in an intensive two-week "boot camp" led by Penn State journalism faculty. Among those 75 selected for the summer internships, six are Penn State students.

Marie Hardin, associate head of the department of journalism in Penn State's College of Communications, and Gene Foreman, former managing editor of the Philadelphia Inquirer and retired professor of journalism at Penn State, are among the faculty leading the training. Students in the program will finish the "boot camp" on June 12 and move on to be copy editor interns at a number of prominent newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal, New York TImes and New York Daily News, to name a few.
