UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Four entries compiled by Penn State students earned awards from the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

One student, senior Preston Shoemaker, earned two awards. He was honored in the college/university division for both news (“Fighting Mother Nature: The Future of Golf in Scotland”) and sports (“Safe at Home”).

In the college/university long-form division, Sébastien Kraft, who graduated in May, was honored for “Sharing Destiny: The Forgotten Slaves of Mauritania.”

Also, The Daily Collegian, the student-run campus newspaper, was honored in the arts/entertainment/cultural affairs division for its coverage of the 2022 Penn State Dance Marathon.

The awards were presented at a special event celebrating the 40th annual Mid-Atlantic Emmys on Saturday night at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel. The Mid-Atlantic Chapter includes journalism professionals from organizations in Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Overall, Penn State student work was nominated in seven categories representing different types of media and covering several areas of journalism. Student reporters from “Centre County Report,” a weekly TV newscast produced by Penn State students; The Daily Collegian; and “In the Game,” a sports issues show run by students for a national audience, were nominated.

The nominations demonstrate the success of students at the regional level and the breadth of opportunities the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications and the University provide.
