WYOMISSING, Pa. — A group of Penn State Berks veterans have organized an appreciation and recognition event that will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11 in the Perkins Plaza. In the event of rain, the location will move to the Perkins Student Center lobby. The event will include military music, patriotic cookies, and "challenge coins" for veterans, and it is free and open to the public.

The history of military challenge coins is widely debated, and their origin is rooted in the history of civilizations from the Romans to the American colonials. Military challenge coins are small metal coins that are carried by members of a unit or those who served on a specific tour of duty. The most common way to earn a challenge coin is through demonstrated excellence.

Also, there will be a table display in Tully’s, the campus cafeteria, during Veterans Day, recognizing POWs and fallen soldiers.
