The Berks County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association announced that Penn State Men's Volleyball Head Coach Mark Pavlik will be the special guest speaker at the 29th Annual Alumni & Friends Golf Outing on Monday, July 18, at Golden Oaks Golf Club. The golf tournament is a scramble format with registration starting at 11:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The registration fee is $130 per person.
In his 22 seasons as the head coach, Pavlik has guided the Penn State Men's Volleyball Team to 21 appearances in the NCAA tournament. In 2008, the team took home the title and Pavlik was named the VCA National Coach of the Year. In 2015, Pavlik secured his 500th win, making him one of the “winningest” coaches in Penn State history. In 2016, he was awarded the Donald Shondell All-Time Great Coach Award-Contemporary Division. This award is bestowed on those who have made an indelible mark in the sport of volleyball.
"The chapter is pleased to welcome Coach Mark Pavlik to our golf outing. Coach Pavlik has created incredible levels of success both on the court and off, and we're excited to have him attend our event," said Berks County Chapter President Mike Rowley. Pavlik will participate in the outing, make some brief remarks, and participate in a question-and-answer session at the post-outing dinner.
Paul Clifford, chief executive officer of the Penn State Alumni Association, will also be on-hand to meet and greet attendees. The outing will be followed by a dinner, award ceremony, and silent auction.
"We're excited to have the CEO of the Alumni Association, the parent organization to the Berks County Chapter, attend our outing to showcase what Berks County and our alumni are passionate about and to demonstrate the connection the alumni in Berks County have to our alma mater," said Rowley. "We couldn't be more proud of what this outing has already achieved, and to have Paul and Mark on hand means our fellow alumni and friends are going to have something special happen in front of them."
All proceeds from the outing will benefit the chapter’s scholarship fundraising drive. The Chapter has already raised over $33,000 toward their goal of $50,000. The fund will assist deserving students from Berks County with their goal of attending Penn State Berks. In addition, Pavlik has agreed to donate a signed volleyball that will be included with the Chapter's silent auction items available at the outing.
The registration fee includes the round of golf and cart; use of the driving range and putting green; pre-outing and post-outing meals; beverages; and on-course contests. A dinner-only option exists for those interested in attending the post-outing dinner, which includes special guests remarks, question-and-answer sessions, and participation in the silent auction.
Participants must complete the registration form by July 1. For more information or to obtain a registration form, contact Mike Rowley via email at mikerowley@alumni.psu.edu or visit the chapter’s golf tournament website: psuberkschapter.com/golf.
The chapter is seeking event sponsors and donations of autographed memorabilia, sports items, or other “large” prizes for their post-outing silent auction. Donors of these items will receive recognition in the event program and at the auction table. Only a few sponsorship and golf registration openings remain.
