Bill Tyson, director of strategic communications at Penn State Brandywine, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Chester Education Foundation and the Media Business Authority, two local non-profit organizations.

The Chester Education Foundation promotes community revitalization through strategic partnerships in education, youth and workforce development, as well as college access.

The Media Business Authority encourages economic growth, improves positive visual impact, and sustains and nurtures business development in Media Borough, the county seat of Delaware County.

“It’s an honor, both personally and professionally, to join two valued community organizations that are making a positive impact in critical areas in our region,” Tyson said. “The missions of the Chester Education Foundation and the Media Business Authority are well connected to my personal interest in civic engagement as well as Penn State Brandywine’s commitment to community engagement.”

Tyson has served as Penn State Brandywine’s director of strategic communications since 2013. In that role, he directs communications, marketing and community affairs for the campus. He was previously an adjunct instructor, teaching public relations and marketing courses.

He is active in the community, serving on the Delaware County Workforce Development Board, the Community Action Agency of Delaware County’s shelter services board and affordable housing board, and the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union advisory board.

He is a past member of Media Borough Council and the Rose Tree Media School Board and past president or chairman of the Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County, Rocky Run YMCA, Delaware County SPCA, Middletown Township Business and Professional Association, Media Fire Company, Rose Tree Media Optimist Club, Delaware County Press Club, Media Borough Civil Service Commission and Media Borough Recreation Commission.

Tyson has been honored for his service by the March of Dimes, Media Theatre, Rotary Club of Media, Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, Community Action Agency of Delaware County and Rose Tree Media School District. In 2018, he was named a distinguished alumnus of Penncrest High School.
