MEDIA, Pa. — Penn State Brandywine hosted its annual Faculty and Staff Appreciation and Awards Luncheon on May 1. The event recognizes faculty and staff who have done extraordinary work for the campus.
“One quote I really like is, ‘All things are possible in May.’ If you take yourself back to a year ago today, think about what you wanted to accomplish for this year in your career,” said Regional Chancellor Marilyn J. Wells. “For some of you, that was a new job, and this is your first awards luncheon. For some of you, it might have been a particular award you were striving for, and we’re here celebrating it today.”
The following faculty and staff received the Connections Award for establishing connections between Brandywine students, faculty, staff and community members:
- Kalpani Dissanayake, assistant teaching professor of business and economics
- Heather Shank, administrative staff assistant, Academic Affairs
The following faculty received the Equity Award, which recognizes exemplary work performance and achievement throughout the past year in diversity, equity and inclusion:
- Apoorva Mate, assistant teaching professor of mathematics
The following faculty and staff received the Sustainability Award, which recognizes those who have shown their commitment to promoting a resilient campus, community or world:
- Emily Dozor, part-time instructor and garden coordinator
- Timothy Lawlor, professor of physics
The following staff were recognized with the Brandywine’s Best Award, which recognizes the exemplary services, work, innovation and excellence of staff members to the greater Brandywine community:
- Michael Daly, IT support specialist, Information Technology Services
- Dennis Dozier, administrative support assistant, Advising and Career Services
- Yaneek Forbes, maintenance worker, Office of Physical Plant
The following faculty and staff members were recognized with awards:
- D’Iorio Undergraduate Research Faculty Mentoring Award – Anna Sigmon, assistant professor of chemistry
- D’Iorio Faculty Research Award – Michael Yatauro, associate professor of mathematics
- George W. Franz Advising and Mentoring Award – Karen Theveny, assistant teaching professor of communications and Dennis Dozier, administrative staff assistant, Academic Affairs
- Madlyn L. Hanes Faculty Award – Joshua Phillips, associate teaching professor of communication arts and sciences
- The Excellence in Teaching Award for Part-Time Faculty – Lawrence Smythe and Vincent Perez, part-time instructors
- The Excellence in Teaching Award – Megann Hedgecock, lecturer of engineering
- Open and Affordable Educational Resources (OAER) Champion Award – Nasibeh Zohrabi, assistant professor of engineering
The following faculty members who are retiring were recognized for their contributions to the campus:
- Nannette D’Imperio, lecturer of information sciences and technology
- Peggy Signorella, distinguished professor of psychology and women’s, gender and sexuality studies
