Penn State alumna joins Brandywine as development director

MEDIA, Pa. — Bringing enthusiasm and years of experience, Marleen Livingstone recently joined Penn State Brandywine as the director of development.

A graduate of nearby Upper Darby High School, Livingstone earned her bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Penn State. After graduation, she stayed in State College and worked in development at Lion Line, the University’s telefund organization. Lion Line student callers contact alumni, parents and friends on behalf of Penn State's colleges, campuses and programs.

“I knew I wanted to work in fundraising,” she said.

Eventually moving back to Delaware County, Livingstone was the director of development and communications at Methodist Services in Philadelphia. She enjoys working in fundraising because, “I love meeting new people and every day is different. I like a challenge.”

Coming home to Penn State and working at Brandywine is a dream come true for her, said Livingstone.

“I always wanted to work here. The staff is amazing, the students are nice and I like the diversity. It’s a great work environment,” she said.

Longtime Penn State fans, Livingstone and her husband, Tim, who also graduated from Penn State, visit their alma mater every year. Last fall they brought their three children, Noa, 15, Jaina, 13, and Jonah, 8, to their first Penn State football game.

“Even in the pouring rain, my son Jonah loved it,” she said.

Penn State Brandywine is currently in the third year of "A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence," a focused campaign that seeks to elevate Penn State’s position as a leading public university in a world defined by rapid change and global connections. With the support of alumni and friends, “A Greater Penn State” seeks to fulfill the three key imperatives of a 21st-century public university: keeping the doors to higher education open to hardworking students regardless of financial well-being; creating transformative experiences that go beyond the classroom; and impacting the world by fueling discovery, innovation and entrepreneurship.
