UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The State College branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will hold its 57th annual used book sale May 12-15 at the Snider Agricultural Arena on Penn State’s University Park campus. The sale will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
More than 250,000 books, priced to sell, will be available for purchase. This year’s selection includes such categories as children’s books, fiction, biographies, newer text books, collectors, sports, hobbies, history, mysteries and more.
Sale highlights include an expanded children’s book section consisting of 25,000 books, most in excellent condition; 4,000 comic books — including more than 1,000 individual titles, some going back more than 30 years — from Marvel, DC Comics and many smaller publishers; and approximately 100 copies of Penn State LaVie yearbooks that go back several decades. All of the comics are alphabetized and priced individually.
Monday, May 14, will be half-price day, and Tuesday, May 15, will be bag day, when shoppers can bring and fill their own bag for $7.
In the interest of shopper safety and enjoyment, and in accordance with safety regulations, capacity of the Snider Agricultural Arena will be limited to 450 people at any given time during the book sale. In addition, to provide full access to exits in the event of an emergency, the sale perimeter may not be used by customers for temporary storage.
The book sale is the result of generous donations from the community. AAUW State College members have worked since last June sorting and pricing the books for the four-day sale. Almost all sale proceeds are distributed locally, through community grants to local organizations that in some way reflect AAUW’s mission to advance equity for women and girls, and through scholarships to returning adult women students.
