UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Arboretum at Penn State invites the campus and local communities to welcome the holiday season by enjoying the festive displays created for its second annual Winter Celebration on Friday, Dec. 11.
All activities will take place in the Arboretum's H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens at the corner of Bigler Road and Park Avenue on the University Park campus. Admission is free.
From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., visitors may view holiday trees festooned with thousands of lights along the main garden walk, at the Overlook Pavilion and in Childhood's Gate Children's Garden. Many trees will be decorated with ornaments hand-crafted by children at local preschool facilities and elementary schools. The holiday décor will include a tall Fraser fir tree showcased in the Glass House in the children's garden.
A highlight of the evening will be the singing of seasonal and popular tunes by Penn State a cappella ensembles, the Hi-Lo's and The Pennharmonics. The first performance will begin at 5:30 p.m. on the event lawn in the middle of the gardens, and the second will start at approximately 6 p.m. in the children's garden. Complimentary hot cocoa will be served at the pavilion.
