      Arboretum's spectacular tulip display is highlight of the season

      Over 30,000 flowers will begin peak bloom this week

      UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — With warm, sunny weather coaxing spring flowers out of their winter slumber, more than 30,000 tulips are unfurling their spectacular colors in the H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens at The Arboretum at Penn State.

      A single show-stopping display — more than 27,000 bulbs — is planted in the Arboretum's Joan Milius Smith Esplanade. Peak bloom begins this week and will continue through the first week of May. Visitors are encouraged to bring cameras and smartphones.

      This year’s display features a wide range of tulip varieties in a rainbow of colors, from vibrant reds and yellows to deep purples and soft pastels. As always, individual tulip varieties are labeled so visitors can take note of their favorites.

      The H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens in The Arboretum at Penn State are located on the corner of Park Avenue and Bigler Road -- across Park Avenue from the Smeal Business Building and across Bigler Road from the Lewis Katz Building. Parking is available at the Bigler Road entrance.
