UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Lion’s Pantry is collaborating with the Penn State Bakery and Lion Surplus to celebrate National Food Bank Day on Friday, Sept. 1.
The Penn State Bakery will donate a loaf of bread to the Lion’s Pantry for every loaf sold at Lion Surplus. Lion Surplus, which also will accept donations to help stock the Lion’s Pantry, is open 7:30 a.m. to noon on Fridays but will accept donations any time throughout the week.
“I am very pleased to collaborate with Lion Surplus and the Penn State Bakery to support National Food Bank Day,” said Heide Gibson, associate director of student affairs and Lion’s Pantry manager. “Food insecurity is a concern for many students at Penn State, and though this is the beginning of the academic year, we still need support to stock our shelves.”
The Lion’s Pantry accepts nonperishable, unopened and unexpired food and household item donations. The pantry’s most-needed items include shampoo, conditioner, reusable bags and canned meats/proteins. Click here to learn more about ways to give to the pantry.
The Lion’s Pantry, located on Big Hollow Road near Lion Surplus, serves as the official on-campus student food pantry at Penn State’s University Park campus. A unit in the division of Student Affairs, the Lion’s Pantry is an essential resource that provides basic needs and support for students in need.
