Blue & White Society to host date auction benefiting Relay For Life

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Find the luck of the Irish — and support the fight against cancer — on Tuesday, Feb. 28, when a variety of campus leaders and celebrities will be auctioned off to benefit Relay For Life of Penn State.

The Blue & White Society will host the Luck of the Irish Date Auction at 7 p.m. on Feb. 28 in Robb Hall in the Hintz Family Alumni Center.

Attendees will be able to bid one some of their favorite Penn Staters, including:

  • Misha Demchuk, Blue & White Society president
  • Jack Davis, the Nittany Lion
  • Austin Sommerer, THON 2017 executive director
  • Terry Ford, UPUA president
  • Molly Countermine, human development and family studies professor, lead singer of Maxwell Straight

Admission to the date auction is free, but come prepared with cash or check to place a bid on a date with any of these well-known Penn Staters.

“We love doing this event every year because it brings together some of Penn State’s best in the fight against cancer,” said Katelyn Sides, director of Relay For Life for the Blue & White Society. “We hope for a great turnout this year — for the cure!”

Each year, Penn State students and members of the State College community work to raise money for the American Cancer Society, which provides emotional and financial support for cancer patients through the financing of several programs as well as lifesaving research. The fundraising culminates in Relay For Life, a 24-hour walk-a-thon. Relay For Life of Penn State 2017 will be held on April 8-9. For more information, visit www.psurelay.com.

The Blue & White Society is the student membership of the Penn State Alumni Association, with societies at campuses across the Commonwealth. With nearly 9,000 members, it is the largest and one of the most active student organizations at Penn State. The Blue & White Society plans many events on campus each year for its membership, while also participating in events such as THON, Homecoming, Relay For Life, and various community service programs.
