UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — On May 1, Campus Recreation, a unit of Penn State Student Affairs, is hosting the first ever “We Are Penn State Virtual 5K,” with the opportunity to benefit the Penn State Student Care and Advocacy Student Emergency Fund. All Penn State students and Campus Recreation members are welcome to participate in this free event.
The Virtual 5K is a 3.1-mile race that can be completed at any choice of pace and from any location — a sidewalk, road, trail, or treadmill. Participants can register for free through IMLeagues. Registered participants have the option to make a donation to the student emergency fund. Those who make a donation of any amount will earn an Intramural Champion t-shirt courtesy of Campus Recreation. Shirts will be mailed to all eligible participants who make a donation, email proof of their donation to imsports@psu.edu, and complete the race.
All participants are encouraged to wear Penn State gear during the 5K, follow Campus Recreation on Instagram, and tag or direct-message Campus Recreation in social media posts while using #wearepsu5k. In addition, Campus Recreation has routine conditioning workouts for the 5K available on social media and through the registration portal.
This inaugural Virtual 5K is an opportunity to promote fitness and activity while maintaining social distancing during this time of remote learning and work. While most of us are home practicing social distancing, it is Campus Recreation’s mission to encourage regular exercise and provide opportunities for the Penn State community to stay connected through programs like the Virtual 5K.
