UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) will provide free gameday shuttles for service members during Penn State’s upcoming Military Appreciation Game.
During the home football game against Indiana University on Nov. 8, active-duty and veteran service members can ride CATA’s gameday shuttles for free with military identification. The shuttles will run roundtrip from Hills Plaza along South Atherton Street and around downtown State College to Beaver Stadium. Shuttle service will begin three hours before kickoff and end one hour after the conclusion of the game.
"CATA is honored to be part of this initiative and happy to provide our veterans and active-duty military personnel with a free ride to the Military Appreciation Day football game," said David Rishel, CATA executive director and CEO. "As a Navy veteran myself, it's particularly rewarding to me to be able to offer this gesture to those who have served and are currently serving in our armed forces. We are an organization dedicated to service, and this is a nice way for CATA to return the favor to those who have served us all."
No reservations are required, but service members must show a form of military ID to the bus operator or a CATA supervisor. Approved forms of identification include:
- Driver’s license (will need to show the American flag with the word “veteran” underneath)
- VA card
- Military ID
- CAC (Common Access Card active-duty ID)
“I can’t thank CATA enough for partnering with us during Penn State Military Appreciation Week,” said Penn State Senior Director of Veterans Affairs and Services Eugene McFeely. “CATA’s generous offer to support our military service members and veterans in this way is another great example of the Centre community’s support for our military families.”
For non-service members, regular fares for gameday shuttles are $2.50 per trip, exact change only. Riders are encouraged to visit CATA’s website for parking and specific stop information.
