UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Center for Global Studies will host a panel discussion, “Echoes of 20th Century Fascism in Modern Politics and Culture,” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in 109 Walker Building. The discussion, held in conjunction with Penn State’s International Education Week, is free and open to the public.
Bringing together faculty and graduate students from both the Political Science and History departments, "Echoes of 20th Century Fascism" provides a platform to discuss varying perspectives on a complex and pertinent topic: the history of fascist thought in the United States and globally and how this relates to the current political climate. This event seeks to bring faculty, students and members of the community to discuss the importance of using history to understand recent events.
Panelists include Jens-Uwe Guettel, Penn State associate professor of history and religious studies; Kevin Reuning, a graduate student in political science; and Bradley Morabito, a student pursuing bachelor’s degrees in international politics, history and German, and a master’s degree in international affairs. Each panelist will speak on a different perspective, such as fascist thought in the United States and the history of fascism abroad.
