Changes to campus transit, parking announced for spring break

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Transportation Services has announced campus transit and parking changes at University Park for the University's upcoming spring break week, scheduled for Monday, March 6, through Sunday, March 12.

CATA service changes; service impacts due to Curtin Road closure

The Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) will observe its Reduced Service schedule from Saturday, March 4, through Sunday, March 12.

During this time, CATA's campus service will include only the Blue Loop, Monday through Friday, and the Red Link, Monday through Saturday.

Due to a partial closure of Curtin Road scheduled for Monday, March 6, through Friday, March 10, the Shields Building, McCoy Natatorium, and East Halls stops will be closed during this time. 

Temporary stops will be in place on University Drive near Curtin Road and on Bigler Road.

Regular Campus Shuttle and Hershey Shuttle to continue; service impacts due to Curtin Road closure

Both Campus Shuttle routes will operate on their full-service schedules, but the following stops will be closed Monday, March 6, through Friday, March 10, due to the partial closure of Curtin Road:

Campus Shuttle via College Avenue

  • IM Building (Stop 2)
  • East Halls (Stop 3)

Campus Shuttle via Beaver Avenue 

  • East Halls (Stop 14)
  • Shields Building (Stop 15)

The Hershey Shuttle will maintain its regular service schedule during spring break.

Regular parking regulations remain in effect

All normal faculty/staff, student and visitor parking regulations will remain in effect during spring break. 

However, core faculty/staff permits (Brown, Green, Orange, Red, Silver, Yellow) will be valid for parking at the following student parking areas from Monday, March 6, through Friday, March 10:

  • Brown 11 (White Course Apartments)
  • Lot 22 (Eastview Terrace)
  • Lot 81 (South and Pollock Halls)
  • Lot 82 (East Halls)

Faculty/staff and student commuter permit upgrade option

Faculty/staff and student commuter permit holders who wish to gain access to additional parking areas during spring break may purchase a permit upgrade valid from Monday, March 6, through Friday, March 10. The fee will be $20, and all faculty/staff and student commuter permit holders will receive an email with a map of available areas and instructions for purchasing the permit.

Transportation Services Office, Fleet Operations and Bike Den hours

The Transportation Services Office and Fleet Operations will observe normal office and building hours during spring break.

The Bike Den will be closed from Monday, March 6, through Thursday, March 9.

Student parking after spring break

Students not currently registered for on-campus parking who wish return to campus after spring break with a vehicle must first purchase a permit via the online parking portal.
