UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Organizers of a daylong downsizing and sustainability effort in the College of Communications expect a productive day on Nov. 23.
They believe the second “Toss it, Shred it, Trash it!” will be productive — just as a similar event focused on reducing electronic and paper clutter was earlier this year.
For this event, College of Communications faculty and staff in Carnegie Building in the core of campus, in James Building in downtown State College, and in two separate buildings at Innovation Park will focus on culling files.
During the first daylong effort in July, University employees discarded 1,100 pounds of mixed paper, 600 pounds of confidential shredding, and approximately 50 pounds of media.
Staff members from the college have worked closely with the Office of the Physical Plant and followed University records management protocol to format the day. Additionally, communications faculty and staff are encouraged to dress casually and free pizza will be provided for all who participate. More information can be found online at comm.psu.edu/sustainability.
The committee in charge of the day envisions similar subsequent events during potentially slower times in the University’s academic calendar, perhaps next around spring break.
