UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Jane Gallop, distinguished professor of English and comparative literature at the University of Wisconsin — Milwaukee, will present “Sexuality, Disability, and Aging: Queer Temporalities of the Phallus” at 12:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, in 102 Kern Building on Penn State’s University Park campus.
Gallop is the author of nine books, and nearly 100 articles. She has written on a wide range of topics, including psychoanalysis, especially the work of Jacques Lacan; French feminism; psychoanalysis and feminism; the Marquis de Sade; feminist literary criticism; pedagogy; sexual harassment; photography; queer theory; and close reading. While the topics vary, her writing can be understood as the consistent application of a close reading method to theoretical texts. Her current book project is titled “Sexuality, Disability, and Aging: Queer Temporalities of the Phallus” and brings together crip theory, feminist aging studies, queer temporality, psychoanalysis and anecdotal theory.
This event is a part of the Comparative Literature Luncheon lecture series, a weekly, informal lunchtime gathering of students, faculty and other members of the University community. Each week the event begins at 12:15 p.m. — coffee, tea and light lunch fare are provided. At 12:30 p.m. there will be a presentation, by a visitor or a local speaker, on a topic related to any humanities discipline. All students, faculty, colleagues and friends are welcome.
