Concert to kick off 2022 Military Appreciation Week

Tickets available for Nov. 4 concert at the State Theatre Box Office

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Join Penn State for a night of Grammy Award-winning jazz, soul and blues music at the first annual Military Appreciation Week Concert.

The Penn State Military Appreciation Committee together with The State Theatre will present Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears along with Cedric Burnside, at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, at The State Theatre in downtown State College.

Black Joe Lewis first hit the national stage more than a decade ago and has continued to develop his blues sound and authentic voice. Blues runs through Burnside’s blood, and he uses his talent to bare his soul through music. Burnside is a three-time Grammy nominee and took home the award for Traditional Blues Album in 2022.

Tickets are available online or by calling The State Theatre at (814) 272-0606. Advanced tickets are $40 and $46 when purchased on the day of the show.

All proceeds from the show will benefit the Penn State Military Student Fund, which provides recognition and financial assistance through scholarships. Students who are active-duty military service members, veterans, and their dependents who are enrolled or plan to enroll at any Penn State campus are eligible to apply. Those interested in making an online donation to the fund can visit this link.

The kickoff concert is just one of many events planned both on campus and downtown for Penn State’s 11th annual Military Appreciation Week. See the full schedule of events on Penn State News.

Military appreciation at Penn State
Penn State has a longstanding and proud tradition of serving the men and women of our military through education benefits, resources, support and more. This year, Penn State faculty and staff members who serve or have served will be honored during a series of campus events, including the military appreciation football game on Nov. 12.

Through Penn State’s Seats for Servicemembers program, supporters can provide an opportunity for a service member to attend the Nov. 12 game by purchasing a ticket to be donated. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online or by calling 1-800-NITTANY.

Penn State students, faculty, staff and alumni with military connections can submit a profile of service for the opportunity to be featured on the University’s Military Appreciation website and other materials.
