Domestic violence awareness events to take place on campus throughout October

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and throughout the month Penn State and the local community will be united to combat violence in all its forms.

The following is a list of domestic violence awareness events scheduled to take place on Penn State’s University Park campus throughout the month of October.

Steps to Safety 5K Run/Walk
9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, Penn State Blue/White Golf Courses

The Clothesline Project
Week of Oct. 17, Pasquerilla Spiritual Center
A visual display to raise awareness of domestic and sexual violence.

“Telling Amy’s Story”
6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 132 Flex Theater, HUB-Robeson Center
Film screening of the domestic violence documentary “Telling Amy’s Story” sponsored by the Center for Women Students and the Centre County Women’s Resource Center.

Stand for State workshops
Oct. 18 and 19

Domestic violence awareness tabling in HUB-Robeson Center
Oct. 18, 19 and 20
Join Peers Helping Reaffirm, Educate, and Empower (PHREE) and Triota, Penn State’s women’s studies honor society, to learn more about domestic violence and raise money for the Centre County Women’s Resource Center.

“The Anatomy of Hate: A Dialogue of Hope”
6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, Freeman Auditorium, HUB-Robeson Center
Film screening of “The Anatomy of Hate: A Dialogue of Hope” and talkback with director Michael Ramsdale. Sponsored by the Center for Women Students and the Multicultural Resource Center.

Wear Purple Day
Thursday, Oct. 20
Wear purple — the color of Domestic Violence Awareness Month — and use this as a way to tell others why ending domestic violence is important to you. #PurpleThursday

Conversation with author Jon Krakauer
7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, Freeman Auditorium, HUB-Robeson Center
Community conversation about campus sexual assault with best-selling author Jon Krakauer. This program will be streamed live from Harrisburg.

Gloria Steinem
8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, Schwab Auditorium
Gloria Steinem is a writer, lecturer, political activist, and feminist organizer. The event is free but requires tickets, which will be available to students Oct. 19 and the general public Oct. 26. Tickets will be available at the HUB-Robeson Center ticket desk, Bryce Jordan Center, Eisenhower Auditorium, and Penn State Downtown Theatre.
