Employees, students to receive survey on PSUAlert notification system

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — All Penn State faculty, staff and students who receive PSUAlert emergency messages will receive an email survey about the University’s emergency alert system on Wednesday, June 8.

The University-wide survey is being conducted by the College of Information Sciences and Technology and the Office of Emergency Management for research purposes. The survey will ask users about the types of events they would like to be notified about and how they would like to be notified, the actions they might take during certain emergency situations, and their preferences for frequency of communication during emergency incidents.

Additional topics covered in the survey — including campus affiliation, transportation, cell phone types and usage, and social media preferences — will help guide future emergency notifications.

“Once we have the responses, we will analyze the data to help us determine how to improve the overall emergency messaging system,” said Pam Soule, Penn State’s emergency planning manager. “We hope to better understand the most effective means to broadcast emergency notifications to faculty, staff and students.”

Participation in the survey is voluntary and responses will remain confidential; personally identifiable information will not be collected. For questions about the survey, call 814-865-8233 or email nxg13@ist.psu.edu. PSUAlert subscribers can take the survey here.
