UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The story of Kenton Iwaniec, a 24-year-old Pennsylvania state trooper killed by an impaired driver, will be the topic of a community program titled “An Empty Seat at the Table,” set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, in Freeman Auditorium of the HUB-Robeson Center. It is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by Penn State University Police and Public Safety, the event is intended to bring community members together for an evening focused on fostering a safe community.
With their personal accounts, Iwaniec family members will describe the devastating results of driving under the influence and educate attendees on how to prevent this deadly crime, all while illustrating how tragedy can be transformed into an opportunity to make a difference.
“This event is a way for University Police and Public Safety to connect and engage with the community we serve while sharing valuable information,” said Charlie Noffsinger, assistant vice president of University Police and Public Safety. “We look forward to hearing the Iwaniec family’s story alongside members of our community. We hope the program will inspire responsible behaviors so that others do not have to suffer the unimaginable pain the Iwaniec family has endured.”
