Expect road closures, bus route detours for THON 5K on Nov. 7

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Several roads will be closed during this year's THON 5K, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, starting with the children's race at 10:30 a.m.

The 5K race will start in the in front of Beaver Stadium, turn south down Porter Road to Hastings Road, follow Hastings Road west across University Drive to Bigler Road, north on Bigler Road to Pollock Road, West on Pollock Road to Fraser Road, north on Fraser Road to Curtin Road, then east on Curtin Road to finish at Beaver Stadium.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m., Curtin Road will be closed from University Drive to Porter Road for the children's race, while the rest of the race route will remain open. From approximately 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. the full route will be closed to vehicle traffic. Motorists traveling around campus during this event can expect delays.

University Police will be controlling the various intersections throughout the course to control traffic and maintain safe conditions for the runners. Drivers are urged to use caution and allow extra time to get to destinations on campus.

Parking for this event will be primarily in Lot 44 and Stadium West, with additional parking in the East Deck and Eisenhower Deck if needed. Those parking for this event should note that the section of Lot Stadium West closest to University Drive will be reserved for THON families.

CATA's CATABUS Community and Campus service will operate on detour from approximately 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. while traveling across campus.Routes will follow Park Avenue across campus, resulting in stop closures along Curtin Road and Porter Road.Courtesy stops will be made available on Park Avenue at Fischer Road (at the existing bus stops), and at the intersections of Park Avenue and Allen Street, Park Avenue and Allen Street, Park Avenue and Shortlidge Road, and Park Avenue and Bigler Road.For specific route and detour information, please visit http://goo.gl/Q2hirq.
