UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Adult learners are those who come to college later in life. Sometimes that’s only a few years after graduating high school. Sometimes it’s decades later, after marriage, children or service in the armed forces.

One of the hurdles to finishing an education is making it work financially. The Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center is holding its first open webinar of the year, geared toward adult learners and their financial needs.

This month’s webinar is scheduled for noon to 1 p.m. on Jan. 29. Find the Zoom link here.

Webinars from the Sokolov-Miller Family Center are available at no charge to all members of the Penn State community.

Additionally, self-study modules are available here from "MoneyCounts: A Penn State Financial Literacy Series."

Adult learners are often juggling multiple roles in their lives in addition to being students. An adult learner is defined as being 24 years or older; a veteran of the armed services; or returning to school after four or more years of employment, homemaking or other activity.

The Jan. 29 webinar will cover the real cost of education; the proper use of financial aid funds while working toward completion of a degree; budgeting for a household and an education; credit cards and debt management; and mortgages, taxes, identity theft, insurance and retirement planning.

The Sokolov-Miller Family Financial and Life Skills Center offers services to the entire Penn State community and is part of Penn State Undergraduate Education, the academic administrative unit that provides leadership and coordination for University-wide programs and initiatives in support of undergraduate teaching and learning at Penn State.
