MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Humanities will welcome Gloria Kondrup to campus at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, in Room 103 of the Educational Activities Building for a Society of Design presentation. "FEMINAE, Typographic Voices: of Women, by Women," is a presentation of political posters from the archives of the Center for the Study of Political Graphics.
FEMINAE presents a visual history of critical social issues. The works, created over the past 50 years, examine issues such as feminism, choice, gender equality, war, immigration, and violence against women. Artists include Barbara Kruger, Sister Corita Kent, the Guerilla Girls, and others from the United States, Mexico, Europe and Australia.
Kondrup is adept in both art and design. As a design consultant, she has helped evolve extensive branding, identity and packaging systems. As a full-time professor at ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California, she has been a design educator for more than two decades. As director of Archetype Press, ArtCenter’s letterpress studio, she redefines the value of typography and analog technology in the digital landscape. Her fine art prints and books are in private and public collections, including the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Getty Museum, and the Sackner Archive of Concrete and Visual Poetry. She is currently the executive director of the Hoffmitz Milken Center for Typography in Pasadena.
This event is open to the public. Tickets are $12 for general admission; $5 for students and faculty within the School of Humanities, with discount code. Contact Craig Welsh at crw12@psu.edu or 717-948-4352 for more information.
