UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State has completed another key measure as part of the ongoing roll out of aggressive new Greek-letter organization safety initiatives. The relationship statement is now posted online and will be signed by each Greek-letter organization member as a sign of commitment acknowledging their responsibilities and their primary support of student safety.
The relationship statement clarifies the respective rights and responsibilities of the University, the governing councils, chapters and their members and in accordance with the law and University policies, reinforces expectations of key safety measures and conduct that must be followed.
The privilege of fraternities and sororities to exist at the University as recognized student organizations comes with a high level of responsibility. The relationship between the institution and the fraternity and sorority community is one that must be mutually beneficial. The relationship statement details the expected responsibilities of:
- Chapter officers
- Individual chapters
- Undergraduate chapter members
- Governing councils
- Penn State University
As is standard this time of year, new leaders are being identified within three of the four governing councils — Interfraternity Council (IFC), Panhellenic Association (PHA) and Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) —and most individual chapters. After this time of transition, all members must sign the statement and future new members will be required to sign the statement when they are initiated into their Greek-letter chapter.
More information will be shared in the coming weeks.
