“Because of our unique position and the social responsibility we have to use technology to make a difference in the world, through healthcare, education, and energy management, we created a global contest for innovation because we just want to see great things happening.”

-- Dan Mead (‘75g), president and chief executive officer of Verizon Wireless, talking about the company’s “Powerful Answers” competition, which, in its second year, is offering millions of dollars in prizes for innovators in the areas of education, healthcare, sustainability, and transportation.

Mead led the kick-off panel Monday morning for IST Start-up Week 2014, a weeklong showcase of innovations and entrepreneurship featuring “insider” talks by industry giants, cutting-edge technology demonstrations, and numerous networking opportunities for Penn State students who aspire to be trailblazers in whatever field they choose.
