UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The 2017 Homecoming Executive Committee and Penn State Military Appreciation Committee have announced that the 2017 Penn State Homecoming and Military Appreciation weeks will both be held Sunday, Nov. 5, through Sunday, Nov. 12.
The 2017 Penn State Homecoming and Military Appreciation Game is set for Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11, against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in Beaver Stadium.
Members of the Homecoming Executive Committee and Military Appreciation Committee expressed excitement about working together and collaborating with the Penn State community to welcome home Penn State’s alumni and military personnel throughout the week, culminating in the Homecoming and Military Appreciation Game.
"Penn State Homecoming is very excited to have the unique opportunity to work in collaboration with Military Appreciation Week,” said Jillian Susi, executive director of Homecoming 2017. “We look forward to organizing events to celebrate pride and tradition for the whole Penn State community to enjoy.”
“Penn State’s Military Appreciation Committee is honored to celebrate our commitment to our alumni and others in the community that have served in the military,” added Todd Bacastow, a committee co-chair. “We’re again excited to hold a week of military appreciation activities honoring service members, veterans, and their families, concluding on Nov. 11, Veterans Day. Our tailgate at the Military Appreciation Game is a community supported, free tailgate honoring service members, veterans, their families, and the families of fallen warriors, and has become a growing and very well-attended event.”
The annual Homecoming parade will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, on Penn State’s University Park campus and in downtown State College. The annual Seats for Servicemembers initiative also will take place leading up to the gridiron clash with Rutgers.
Details on additional Homecoming and Military Appreciation Week events will be announced as they become available.
