Independence Day holiday parking and service changes, 4th Fest impacts announced

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — In observance of the Independence Day holiday, the following changes to Transportation Services office hours and campus transit services will be in effect on Tuesday, July 4:

  • The Transportation Services Office will be closed.
  • Fleet Operations will be closed, with no Fleet vehicle pickup available.
  • There will be no Campus Shuttle service.
  • There will be no CATA campus or community service.

Faculty/staff permit holders may park at Eisenhower Deck and all faculty/staff surface parking areas (excluding 4th Fest parking areas) throughout the day.

Student permit holders may park at student evening/weekend parking areas throughout the day (excluding 4th Fest parking areas), except the East, HUB, Nittany and West Decks, which will remain available to permit holders after 4 p.m. weekdays.

Visitor parking will be available at the East, HUB, Nittany and West decks at the rate of $1 per hour.

Overnight restrictions between 2 and 4 a.m. for the Commuter lots will remain in effect, and all reserved parking spaces such as ADA, service/delivery, etc. will remain reserved.

Parking impacts due to 4th Fest

Due to the Central PA 4th Fest at Medlar Field, Penn State parking permits will not be valid at the following parking areas on Tuesday, July 4.

  • Porter North
  • Porter South
  • Jordan East
  • Stadium West
  • Orange L (East)
  • Orange L (South)
  • Orange O (Meats Lab)

These areas will be closed from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 4th Fest visitor parking will begin at 1 p.m. Permit holders who wish to park in these areas will need to pay the event parking fee upon entrance to the lots.

Pollock, Burrowes and Curtin Road closures due to Firecracker 4K

Pollock Road, Burrowes Road and Curtin Road will be closed from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, due to the 4th Fest Firecracker 4K.

4th Fest Parade impacts

The following downtown and campus roads will be closed beginning at noon Tuesday for the 4th Fest parade scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.:

  • South Burrowes Street between 100 South Burrowes and College Avenue
  • College Avenue between South Burrowes Street and Shortlidge Road
  • Shortlidge Road between College Avenue and Pollock Road
  • Pollock Road between Shortlidge Road and Bigler Road
  • Bigler Road between Shortlidge Road and Curtin Road
  • Curtin Road between Bigler Road and the University Drive intersection

As the parade progresses through the route, the roads will reopen to regular traffic.
