The public is invited to the Indian Graduate Student Association's (IGSA) biggest cultural event — Jashn 2016 — from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 31, in Schwab Auditorium.
Jashn, which translates to “celebration,” is a great opportunity for Indian graduate students as well as other students at Penn State to showcase their talents in front of a huge and diverse population. Jashn typically includes a showcase of Indian culture through dance, music and other forms of entertainment.
This year, a lot of different groups at Penn State will be performing in this event, including Penn State Fanaa, an a cappella group; Penn State Ghaamudyaz, a Garba dance group; Penn State de Sher, a Bhangra dance group; and Volé, a Penn State ballet club. The event is funded by UPAC and is free for all to attend.
“Jashn 2016 will be a shared celebration of cultures,” said Karan Arora, IGSA secretary. “India is an amazingly diverse country, and that is what we will depict through this event. We have some very talented Indian graduate students who will be performing in this event, and this year we will also have a global perspective. Not only do we want to show our culture to others, but we want others to share their culture with us.”
Seating for the event starts at 6:30 p.m., and the performances start at 7 p.m. For more information, follow IGSA on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/igsapennstate/ or contact IGSA at psu.igsa@gmail.com.
