UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Fall is just beginning, but the Office for Summer Session is already looking to hire Penn State students as mentors for the summer 2017 Learning Edge Academic Program, or LEAP.

A LEAP mentor is an undergraduate student who serves as a resource for incoming first-year students enrolled in the program. As a role model, a mentor assists first-year students in their transition to Penn State University Park by providing academic support and enriching social activities. Activities commonly planned by mentors include study sessions, tours, introductions to services like University Libraries and Penn State Learning, and social activities like hiking Mount Nittany and skating at Pegula Ice Arena. In addition, a mentor is expected to work collaboratively with faculty, staff and fellow mentors to provide LEAP students with a successful and memorable Penn State experience.

The mentor position is challenging, yet rewarding, and suitable for students interested in leadership roles and those who have a desire to positively impact the lives of incoming first-year students.
