UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The community is invited to celebrate Penn State’s history by joining Lion Ambassadors at Old Main from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 20, for a night of 1950s-themed activities, entertainment and historical tours.

Lantern Tours is an annual Lion Ambassador event hosted in the spring, centered around the idea of stepping back (quite literally, for the tour guides) through Penn State’s history. Tours begin at Old Main and take visitors on a short path around campus, complete with visits from special characters of Penn State’s past. To compliment the experience, there is free food, activities, and entertainment on Old Main lawn, as well.

This year, there is a 1950s theme to the festivities. As such, there will be a Polaroid photo booth, spin art, and Skee-Ball included in the activities. For food, root beer floats and Shirley Temples are among the items on the menu. To round out the experience, there will be retro-inspired music throughout the night, including a performance by Elvis himself. The result: While reliving some of Penn State’s history, guests will also have the opportunity to relive some American history, too.

The Lion Ambassadors are Penn State’s student alumni corps who aim to communicate the University’s history, personality, and traditions to students, alumni, and friends. As “ordinary students with extraordinary pride,” the organization’s main mission is to foster the idea that involvement with Penn State is a lifelong commitment, and achieve this by offering tours of campus, planning university-wide programming, organizing S-Zones for sports events, and more.
