UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Lion’s Pantry officially opened its doors Nov. 20. Since then, the pantry’s organizers have seen tremendous support from the Penn State community, but food items are still needed in order to support students upon return from winter break.
“After a number of articles came out that week regarding our project, we have received countless emails from Penn State alumni, parents, students, staff and community members showing their support,” said Alex Mendonca, pantry organizer. “We are extremely grateful and humbled by the support we have received.”
The pantry will begin to distribute food to students in need during the spring semester.
During this holiday season, the pantry’s organizers would like to ask Penn Staters who are fortunate enough to have their needs met help those who are in need by donating a food item. “We would like for students who go home over winter break to bring back a can or two for the pantry,” said Mendonca.
A “wish list” of food items can be found on the pantry’s website.
The pantry will reopen from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, and will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. every Thursday during the spring semester. The pantry is located on Service Road across the street from the Blue Band Building. Lion’s Pantry organizers will also recruit for new members at the Winter Welcome Resource Fair on Saturday, Jan. 13, at the HUB-Robeson Center.
