UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Members of the University Park community may notice a low-flying airplane on Friday, June 3, as a Cessna will be circling University Park between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to collect aerial images of the campus.
The airplane will be flying at a low level (1,000 feet above ground level) and at low speed (60 mph) in order to capture the aerial imagery. All Federal Aviation Administration rules will be followed during the flight, and the airplane poses no danger to the campus community.
The flyover is a collaboration between the Penn State Office of Physical Plant, the Penn State Department of Architectural Engineering, and Bentley Systems Inc. The collected images will be used to create a 3D virtual model of the University Park campus.
The flight is weather dependent and could be delayed if conditions are unfavorable. In the event of adverse weather, Wednesday, June 8, has been tentatively set as the flight’s backup date.
