UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Maryland and Pennsylvania residents between north Baltimore and the University Park Airport may see low-flying aircraft participating in a regular exercise being conducted by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) between 10 a.m. and noon on Tuesday.
According to a Tuesday morning press release by NORAD, residents in the area may hear and/or see low-flying, NORAD-controlled fighter jets flying in close proximity to civilian aircraft, which will take on the role of an “aircraft of interest” during the exercise. Although they are scheduled to begin in the morning, the flights could be delayed for 24 hours or canceled depending on weather.
In order to test responses, systems and equipment, NORAD continuously conducts exercises with a variety of scenarios, the release said. All NORAD exercises are carefully planned and closely controlled.
