New online voicemail supports employees on the go

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- New additions to Penn State’s self-service online voicemail portal have now made it possible for employees at University Park to listen to and manage their personal voicemail messages online.

Faculty and staff who use the University’s Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) voicemail system can now access and listen to their messages through a secure online voicemail inbox. The service also enables employees to sign up to receive instant email notifications when they have a new voicemail message on their desk phone.

These tools are convenient options for Penn State employees who need to stay in touch with colleagues, even though their job responsibilities require them to be increasingly mobile, explains Phil Coolick, manager of network services in ITS Telecommunications and Networking Services.

“Whether you are at your desk or on-the-go using a smartphone, tablet or laptop, you will immediately be alerted when you have new voicemail and then easily be able to listen to it from any device, at any time through the online inbox,” said Coolick.

Any employee at University Park who uses the voicemail system can sign up to have email notifications sent to his or her Penn State email address. The alert will contain details about who the message is from, when it was received and a link to listen to it online. Within the voicemail portal, users can listen to, save and delete messages. Likewise, voicemail can be stored for future reference.

“Nearly 11,000 employees who use voicemail at University Park will be able to take advantage of these convenient tools,” said Coolick. “This streamlined process for checking messages will save employees time and make it easier to manage their daily telecommunication needs.”

The service is currently only available at University Park but will be made available to other Penn State campuses in the future.
