YORK, Pa. -- Who is that sitting on the bench outside The Bradley Building at Penn State York? It is the Penn State Nittany Lion, thanks to the generous donation of the Penn State Alumni Society. A dedication of the Nittany Lion bench and adjacent garden took place on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Guests included members of the Penn State York Alumni Society and the Penn State York Blue & White Society. About 60 people attended the evening event which included food, games, and an opportunity to have a seat on the Nittany Lion bench and smile for the camera.
“We all want Penn State alumni to feel welcome at the new alumni home on campus. University Park has the Hintz Center but here at York, we have The Bradley Building,” said William E. Englar III, president of the Penn State York Alumni Society and a Penn State York graduate. “How do we make alumni feel welcome, and how do we spark the interest of students and new graduates? The Penn State York Alumni Society came up with a simple answer, we want the lion!”
To celebrate the unveiling of the new bench, the society is sponsoring a contest, and those who have their photos taken sitting with the lion can post their picture to the society’s social media sites and have a chance to win a free T-shirt, while supplies last.
