UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Student Restorative Justice Initiative, a University Park student group dedicated to restoring and empowering individuals involved with the justice system, will present a free informational webinar for Penn State students interested in creating a justice-impacted student organization (JISO).
The webinar, “How to Start and Run a Justice-impacted Student Organization,” will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, via Zoom. Click here to register.
The webinar, co-sponsored by the Criminal Justice Research Center at Penn State, is open to justice-impacted students at any Penn State campus and will give an overview of what a JISO is and how to start and run one. Justice-impacted students include those who have been incarcerated, those who have been arrested or convicted but not incarcerated, and those who have been directly impacted by a loved one being incarcerated. The presenters, all formerly incarcerated current or former college students, will share their experiences in creating and/or running a JISO. A Q&A session will follow.
University Park students, in conjunction with World Campus students, are already working to create a JISO. The first meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18. Those interested in attending can register for the meeting here.
