Penn State Altoona virtual events schedule for April 13–17

ALTOONA, Pa. — Penn State Altoona’s Center for Student and Civic Engagement is partnering with other offices and organizations to offer a series of virtual engagement events throughout the spring semester. Students are encouraged to participate and connect online. Share your thoughts and experiences on your social channels (#PSAltoonaConnect).

All prize winners must be Penn State Altoona students and have a valid Penn State ID number.

Monday, April 13 — Instagram Photo Contest: What's Cooking?

Take a photo of what you are cooking today. All students who share a photo (#PSAltoonaConnect) and follow back @studentlifepsaltoona will be entered into a drawing for a $25 online gift card. Sponsored by Penn State Altoona Power Hours and the student initiated fee.

Monday, April 13 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. — 'Ally 101'

Join Jerry Benito and Sue Patterson as we engage in the workshop “Ally 101.” Learn what it means to be an ally, learn new terms, share your experiences and knowledge, and discuss ways you can be an ally in this "virtual engagement" world. Join us on Zoom using your Penn State email address and the password code 079902.

Monday, April 13 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. — Movie Monday: "Say Her Name: The Life and Death of Sandra Bland"

On July 10, 2015, Sandra Bland, a 28-year-old African American woman from Chicago, was arrested for a traffic violation in a small Texas town. After three days in custody, she was found hanging from a noose in her cell. Bland's death was ruled a suicide, sparking public allegations of murder and cover-up, and turning her case and name into a rallying cry nationwide. Join us on Zoom using your Penn State email address and the password code 994501 to join.

Tuesday, April 14 — Instagram Taskmaster Challenge: Take a photo of an inanimate object that looks like you

Take a photo of an inanimate object that looks like you and share a photo side-by-side with a photo of yourself. All students who share a photo using #PSAltoonaConnect and follow back @studentlifepsaltoona will be entered into a drawing for a $50 online gift card. Sponsored by Penn State Altoona Power Hours.

Tuesday, April 14 from noon to 1 p.m. — Kahoot! Trivia Challenge

Join us on Zoom and open the Kahoot! app to get started. Kahoot! is a trivia game platform for students to get together virtually to test their knowledge. Join the Campus Activities Board and the Office of Safety and Conduct as we test your trivia knowledge. Winners will receive a $25 online gift card.

Tuesday, April 14 from 3 to 4 p.m. — How to best support survivors virtually during Sexual Assault Awareness Month and beyond

As we self-isolate and shelter-in-place, it’s important to remember that countless survivors of sexual and domestic violence are struggling to find a sense of safety after being removed from the communities, environments, and support systems that brought them comfort. Join Brittany Piper on Zoom as she provides actionable steps to virtually support the vulnerable populations within our organizations and communities who need our support now more than ever.

Wednesday, April 15 — 'Finish This Drawing'

Finish this online drawing and share the photo using #PSAltoonaConnect. You must follow back @studentlifepsaltoona to be entered into a drawing for a $25 online gift card. Sponsored by Penn State Altoona Power Hours.

Wednesday, April 15 from 9 to 11 p.m. — Game Night: Monsters Seeking Monsters

Game on! Join us on Twitch for this online, goofy monster dating game. Participants pretend to be monsters who are looking for a date. First place finishers will earn a $25 e-gift card. Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board.

Thursday, April 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Speed Sketchers

Join us on Zoom and have your caricature drawn by an online Speed Sketcher caricature artist. You’ll connect through your webcam with an artist who will draw students individually and upload the digital caricatures to a site for download.

Thursday, April 16 from 3 to 4 p.m. — Eat your G.R.A.P.E.S.: Six ways to cope during COVID-19

Lauren Cook and Sara Lowery will present six ways to cope with stress and anxiety during this time of uncertainty. Come away with helpful resources for balancing your time, in order to be both successful and restful while staying inside. Register for the Zoom session online.

Friday, April 17 — Instagram Question: 'Would you rather …'

Join in on our Instagram topic of the day: Would you rather have many good friends or one very best friend? Share your response on Instagram, follow @studentlifepsaltoona, and tag it #PSAltoonaConnect to be entered in the contest.

Friday, April 17 from 4 to 5 p.m. — Pride Month Keynote Speaker Chella Man

Join the Penn State Center for Gender and Sexual Diversity as they present a keynote address by Chella Man. Man is an American YouTuber, actor, model, artist and LGBTQ activist. He is known for sharing his experiences as a transgender, deaf, genderqueer and Jewish person of color. He came to international attention in 2019 portraying mute superhero Jericho in the second season of the DC Universe series “Titans.” Check out our social media @PennStateLGBTQ for the Zoom connection link.

Friday, April 17 from 7 to 8 p.m. — Friday Night Live! Concert

Join Degy Entertainment on Facebook Live at 7 p.m. EST for Friday Night Live with not one but two headliners! Admission is free. Join on Facebook or email info@degy.com for one of 75 VIP backstage passes for the chance to join the headliners in a virtual meet-and-greet after the show.

Friday, April 17 from 9 to 10 p.m. — Virtual Jackbox Game Night

Join the Campus Activities Board and the D6 Gaming Club for a game night. Join us on Twitch to join in on multiple rounds of Jackbox Games, like Pictionary, trivia, etc., that you could jump in to play. First-place winners will earn a $75 online gift card.
