Due to the Penn State's transition to remote learning in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Penn State Berks has had to re-examine the delivery of scheduled in-person events. While the Berks Diversity Committee’s Pride Month event “The Volume of Silence” has been canceled, Berks students, faculty and staff are encouraged to watch either of University's virtual events at 4 p.m. Friday, April 17.

The Penn State Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity annual Pride Month keynote this year is Chella Man. As part of their virtual programming and transition, they have worked to move their keynote presentation online and increase accessible options to view and participate. The access will be open and will be closed captioned and interpreted in ASL. The link for Chella Man’s livestream is: http://watch.psu.edu/chella-man/

Chella Man has brought significant attention to his personal documentation of his experience in gender transition. With more than 173,000 subscribers and 2.5 million views on his YouTube documentation of his one-year mark on testosterone and his voice changes, Chella Man is becoming a true representation for many communities. Being deaf, Genderqueer, Chinese and Jewish, Chella found that he didn’t have role models to look up to and realized he needed to stand as a voice and a true representation for himself and others.

The Paul Robeson Cultural Center's (PRCC) virtual event will be a conversation with Phil Yu about recent acts of discrimination and xenophobia against individuals of Asian descent. The event will take place at 4 p.m. on the PRCC Instagram account, @psuprcc.

Yu is the founder and editor of the popular Asian American news/culture blog "Angry Asian Man." He also is co-host of the web talk show "Angry Asian America" on ISAtv and host of "Sound and Fury: The Angry Asian Podcast." Building a steady, loyal readership since 2001, "Angry Asian Man" has been called “a daily must-read for the media-savvy, socially conscious, pop-cultured Asian American.” Mixing humor with criticism, Yu's commentary has been featured and quoted in The Washington Post, The New York Times, National Public Radio, CNN, The Wall Street Journal and many other media.
