WYOMISSING, Pa. — As part of the "Global Oscars Comes to Berks," Penn State Berks will present the film "The Man Who Sold his Skin," at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19, in room 5 of the Luerssen Building. The presentation is free and open to the public.

“The Man Who Sold His Skin” is an artistic and touching story of a refugee who is turned into a living piece of art in order to reunite with his fiancé. Written and directed by Kaouther Ben Hania, the story follows a man fleeing Syria to reunite with his love in Paris. Along the way, he seeks refuge in Lebanon, where his voyage stalls as he struggles to gain the Schengen visa he needs. That is until he meets an artist who claims he can help him, under one condition: that he has a large copy of the visa tattooed on his back and stands as a human canvas in an art exhibition in Brussels.

The film premiered at the 77th Venice International Film Festival, where Yahya Mahayni won the Best Actor Award. It was selected as the Tunisian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards. In March 2021, it was nominated for the Best International Feature Film.

The next film in this semester's Global Oscars series will be "Quo Vadis, Aida?" on Nov. 16. The Global Oscars Series is presented by the Penn State Berks global studies baccalaureate degree program and the division of humanities, arts and social sciences.
