Penn State celebrating Earth Day(s) with events throughout April

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Earth Day is Saturday, April 22, but Penn State will celebrate Earth Day(s) with a variety of events for students, faculty, staff and the community throughout April. Activities are scheduled across the Commonwealth at many of Penn State's campuses, from Berks to University Park to Shenango. At University Park:

There will be a free screening of the film “The Age of Consequences” from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the State Theatre. A panel discussion will follow the screening. 

The Penn State Student Farm Club invites the community to join them for Dinner and a Movie with the Student Farm on Tuesday, April 18. The Local Foods Night will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Redifer Commons and will be immediately followed by a screening and panel discussion of the documentary "Dirt" from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in 103 Redifer. Both events are open to the public.

There will be a free screening of the 30-minute documentary “Managing Risk in a Changing Climate” from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at the State Theatre. A panel discussion will follow the screening. 

The gift from the class of 2014, the HUB Green Roof Terrace, will be officially dedicated at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 21, at the HUB-Robeson Center.

At Penn State Altoona

On Monday, April 17, the Penn State Altoona Progressive Democrats, College Republicans, and Young Global Speakers will present "Policies for the Planet." Members of these organizations will explore environmental policies via a civil debate. The event will be held in room 101 of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts from 7 - 9 p.m.

In "Speaking Sustainably," Penn State Altoona science faculty and historians will discuss their viewpoints on sustainability and other diverse topics of environmentalism. The event will take place Tuesday, April 18, from noon - 1 p.m. in room 122B of the Slep Student Center.

On Wednesday, April 19, students and faculty will present "Reading Nature," an event featuring readings of favorite environmental texts, including books, poems, and other types of literature. The event will take place in the Fireside Lounge of the Slep Student Center from 7 - 9 p.m.

The open-mic event "Sounds Green to Me!" will be held Thursday, April 20, from noon - 1 p.m. in room 101 of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts. Join Penn State Altoona students, faculty, and staff at this open-mic by singing your favorite environmentally themed tunes, both contemporary and historic in-style.

On Friday, April 21, will wrap up Earth Week with a "Spring Run Clean-Up." Join the Penn State Altoona Sustainability Council from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. in cleaning up our local waterway. At Penn State Berks:

There will be free screenings of the documentaries “Good Food” (7 p.m. Wednesday, April 12) and “Dirty Business” (7 p.m. Monday, April 17). Both films will be shown in Room 5 of the Luerssen Building, with panel discussions following the screenings. 

Penn State Berks will also host Earth Fest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, on the Perkins Lawn. There will be fun and educational activities, engaging and informative demonstrations, and attendees will be eligible to win prizes.
