UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s COVID-19 dashboard has been updated to show the results of University-provided coronavirus testing at all campus locations through April 8. Over the last seven days at University Park, 4,461 total tests have been administered, resulting in 116 positive cases, for a total seven-day positivity rate of 2.6%. This includes 104 student positive results from 3,797 student tests performed (2.7% positivity rate) and 12 employee positives from 664 employee tests (1.8% positivity rate)

The total seven-day positivity rate for on-demand testing at University Park is 2.7% (2.8% among students and 1.8% among employees). From random testing at University Park, the total seven-day positivity rate is 2.4% (2.6% among students and 1.8% among employees).

Testing at all other Penn State campuses over the last seven days has resulted in 35 total positive results (31 students and four employees) out of 984 total tests administered (801 student tests and 183 employee tests). In response to a rise in cases at Penn State Abington over the last seven days, all in-person residence life activities and athletic events at the Abington campus have been temporarily paused, although classes are not impacted. After learning of several positive student cases, targeted on-campus testing was conducted on April 2 and contact tracing was initiated, and all impacted students are in isolation or quarantine.

All members of the University community are reminded to continue following all COVID-19 public health guidelines to protect their own health and the health of those around them. This includes wearing face masks when required on campus and in the local community, avoiding large gatherings, and practicing physical distancing — as well as complying with University contact tracing and required testing when called upon to do so.

Any student at University Park who has recently traveled, interacted with individuals outside of their “pod,” or believe they may have been exposed to COVID-19 is encouraged to take advantage of free walk-up coronavirus testing on campus. Walk-up testing for asymptomatic students is available at Pegula Ice Arena and the Hintz Family Alumni Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Students who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms should schedule testing appointments with University Health Services.

Due to Penn State football’s final spring practice, there will be no COVID-19 testing at Pegula Ice Arena or Beaver Stadium on Saturday, April 17. However, as usual, the Hintz Family Alumni Center will remain open for walk-up testing and the 101 N. Atherton St. testing site will remain open for random testing that day.

When a positive case is identified, Penn State moves quickly to conduct contact tracing to identify close contacts, and impacted students are placed in isolation or quarantine to limit further spread of the virus. At University Park, there are currently 121 students in on-campus quarantine and isolation housing, representing 30% of the total 400-room quarantine and isolation capacity at Eastview Terrace. There are currently 26 students in quarantine and isolation housing at other Penn State campuses.
