Landscapers work diligently to complete the new healing garden located in the courtyard between the Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute and Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. A soothing retreat, the healing garden features several varieties of living plants and flowers, a paved path, and seating to accommodate patients and their loved ones. Skylights along the edge of the healing garden bring natural light to the radiation oncology treatment areas located on the ground floor. Family lounges at both the infusion therapy bays and the day hospital suites have access to or a view of the healing garden. The personal journey from cancer diagnosis through treatment is emotional and stressful, and research suggests that a natural healing environment can reduce stress and have a positive effect on outcomes.
